As you will know, Sammy the Squirrel took one toothful of delicious, hot-and-spicey niger seed residue and scampered back to his tree with a taste that lingered longer than he expected. He has not been seen near the feeders since getting his taste buds burnt. So far, so good.
On inspecting the feeders during re-up, the birds had flown in after Sammy's departure and shown a marked preference for the Indian-style niger at the frontt of the dish compared to the bland offerings to the rear of the platter where no chilli had been added.
No cheating. Promise.
Conclusion: Birds don't like chilli, they love it!
