Strong chilli powder or pepper sauce (eg. Tabasco) can be dusted onto birdfood. Birds are not bothered by the chilli, but squirrels cannot put up with the burning sensation, and will leave the food alone.

Sammy turns up on niger seed tray; so out with the chilli and dusts the seed. Eye-balled him eat and retreat but he was too quick to get the video on.
